I know I've done it! We all want to seem suave and the most interesting person alive. It's the same thing when we have company over for a party. We clean house and act as if it's just another day in my immaculate home!
Yeah right! As soon as they leave, the button from your pants breaks away flying off your waste and the closet door swings open revealing everything that is a mess in your life.
Why do we do things like that? Why not implement our best self as our permanent mindset?
You may be wondering what tidying up has to do with money or self improvement?
To which I would respond, “Everything!”
Clutter Breeds Chaos
I was listening to an interview with the creator of The Biggest Loser, JD Roth, and his approach with new contestants seemed unorthodox yet profound! One of the first things he makes the contestants do is clean their room!
His reasoning was this… When you first wake up in the morning, if the first thing you see is clutter, dirty clothes, and thus chaos, then your day will also be chaos. If this happens everyday, then your life will also reflect chaos everyday. It's that simple. When your room is clean and organized you feel better and therefore you live better by making better choices.
Not only does having a clean house allow you to relax and feel the calmness in the air, but it develops a certain mindset. A mindset that can think clearly because life is clear, literally and figuratively.
With that said we must learn a system whereby our new change of habit can become second nature. Unfortunately hiring a maid to clean up after you is not going to help you enhance your mindset and life.
The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up
I began reading this book that specifically teaches how to tidying up your living space. I'm learning that if we truly wish to be clean and the most interesting person, we need to make some changes. These changes involve developing a certain mindset and principles to live by. What's funny is I've heard these same principles taught in books like “Think & Grow Rich” and “The Secret”!
The book I'm referring to is called “the life-changing magic of tidying up: the Japanese art of decluttering and organizing” by Marie Kondo.
I highly recommend you read this book and also buy it for loved ones that you worry about!
Marie explains in great detail the order of operations needed to always have a clean space. I don't want to give her secrets away without you doing some homework.
But honestly, you don't necessarily need any book to develop a mindset of cleanliness. However if you struggle with how and where to start, go buy Marie Kondo’s book by clicking the link below!
Until next time…!
