As I've watched the years go by it's become clear that working hard, working smart, and being consistent in one's daily activities is what creates luck (good or bad). I don't believe for one second that President Obama truly believes luck is derived from thin air, or because someone is born a certain way. What the hell is that about? Is the first black President of the United States of America suggesting that his achievement of winning office for two terms was luck, I'm calling shenanigans Mr. President. If President Obama really believes this, then he would credit his achievements to only luck and zero hard work! Living by this belief is basically saying that racism is still alive and well! But then Obama wouldn't be President. This is on my mind because of what Obama said recently to a group of college graduates.
Just a couple of weeks ago President Obama gave a commencement speech at Howard University, and he said something I never imagined someone of his stature would say. (Actually I take that back... He did once let business owners know that they didn't create their businesses, but the government did it all for them!)
He said this,
"That's a pet peeve of mine: People who have been successful and don't realize they've been lucky. That God may have blessed them; it wasn't nothing you did."
It wasn't nothing they did? I'm gonna forget the fact that he used a double negative in that statement. But I can't believe he used a double negative to tell the graduating class of 2016, at Howard University, that they were luck! These kids worked their asses off to graduate, and all that was minimized by the Presidents commencement speech.

Using this logic has some serious negative connotations to it. It basically says that if up to this point in your life, if you aren't successful then you are unlucky. And if you are considered to be unlucky then what's the use of trying anymore. So should people give up if they aren't a success by society standards? At what age do you throw in the towel and declare the remainder of your life as an "unlucky" failure'?

It also says that if you are successful, and therefore lucky, you could sit on the couch at home watching TV and the success will keep rolling in! Again... "Shenanigans!"

One more thing... And I'll end with this thought. The Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump, inherited money from his father. Who American's believe was as huge as Donald, if not bigger, so he was just handed over his current wealth. Which according to Donald Trump currently sits at about $8 billion!
However did you know that Donald Trumps father, at the time of his death, had around $200 to $250 Million. Which is a nice amount of money for Donald to inherit. But that is no where near the $8 Billion net worth Donald Trump has accumulated today. Not to mention his father ran Section 8 hosting!

There's also this statistic that is going around that says, if Donald Trump had invested his inheritance in the S & P 500, he would have around the same amount of accumulated wealth. However there's one slight omission of information. What about all the employees who've worked at his casinos and hotels and every other venture of his. What about all the taxes he's paid. Sure, he filed bankruptcy, but I'd argue if the United States were a business they'd be out of business long ago.

So to say that the students of Howard and every other hard working success story is only lucky is fucking bull shit! It actually kind of pisses me off.

I'm curious what your thoughts are...?
By the way, does anyone even know Donald Trumps fathers name? (Without using Google)
